TRANSLATION (made by the author):

A HISTORY OF THE SEA

When that morning the fishermen from the village  headed to the port in order to start the working day they realised, overwhelmed, that the sea had gone. Beyond the horizon there was only a cloud of dust, sand and dying fish everywhere, but no trace of that infinite extension of water that had accompanied them all their life. Nobody  knew why the sea decided to disappear suddenly, hence so many of the citizens decided to go in search of the sea and ask for explanations, knowing that the existence of the sea had brought them joy and bonanza to the village.

They crossed that large extension of earth with the intention of talking out with the sea to come back with them, finding out on their journey intermittent lagoons of stagnant water, which embraced some travellers with their same purpose, resting under the shadow of some estrange trees that had grown high and strong over the earth dried by the sun. At the end, but, after long time of walking through the sand without finding nor the slightest drop of salty water along the horizon, they gave up. They understood that there had no sense that attempt of finding any explanation to the sea’s disappearance. The sea only decided to go, moved by intentions that anyone of the citizens achieved to understand. If the sea didn’t want to be found, they would never be able to reach it.

Exhausted, they returned to the village, but they finally got use to the circumstances. If the sea had decided to go, they would accept and welcome the horizon of sand and dust as if it was their new home, to grant them the joy and bonanza that they missed  so longed for. For that, the citizens of the village decided to name the extension of dried wasteland by the beautifulest name that they could pronounce: desert. And the desert accepted the gift.
